University of Maryland University College features an extended transcript built for students and employers. These transcripts, accessible and shareable by students, provide transparency and deeper detail on what the student knows and can do. The digital nature of the transcript allows data about the students’ competencies to be discovered by employers and, in the future, will include linked artifacts that demonstrate and verify the student’s learning. Extended transcripts are provided in addition to, rather than a replacement of, the traditional transcript and aim to provide a holistic understanding of the learner. This new type of transcript capitalizes on online technology, thereby enhancing portability of credentials. An extended transcript allows students to convey their competencies and validate their learning with confidence and clarity.
