ABOUT PASI
The Project on Apprenticeship Standards and Interoperability (PASI) is a new initiative to modernize and strengthen the U.S. registered apprenticeship system, led by states and driven by employers.
PASI was created through a federally funded cooperative agreement between the United States Department of Labor and the Alabama Commission on Higher Education. The initiative aims to help states and employers build on proven models and launch registered apprenticeship programs that lead to real careers.
WHY IT WORKS
Registration Agencies
gain access to high-quality work processes that are ready “off the shelf,” simplifying and streamlining the registration process for sponsors.
Employers
gain pre-vetted, widely recognized work processes that support business needs and workforce development.
Workers
gain portable, recognized skills that are valued across occupations and industries.
WHAT PASI IS DOING
PASI brings together registration agencies, employers, sponsors, and national subject matter experts to build tools that improve the quality, transparency, and portability of registered apprenticeship.
Key elements include:
- National Occupational Frameworks (NOFs): Employer-driven frameworks that define competencies for priority occupations and provide a consistent starting point for developing apprenticeship programs. They can streamline program development and review.
- High Impact Occupations (HIO): An approach used to identify and prioritize occupations that support system growth and expansion.
- Quality Framework: A non-prescriptive approach to support consistent, high-quality apprenticeship design, assessment, and implementation.
- Standards development and alignment: Support for developing and refining apprenticeship standards to improve consistency, interoperability, and usability across states and systems.
- Apprenticeship Standards Library: A centralized repository designed to improve transparency by making high-quality standards easier to access, compare, and adopt across states and sponsors.
